Review of Dom Martin at Leeds Blues Club April 1st 2023
A sold out show for the April 1st appearance of Dom Martin with his solo acoustic show. It may have been on April Fool’s day but when it comes to playing the guitar, Dom is as far away from a fool as you could possibly imagine. The lightness of his touch, the dexterity of his fingerpicking and the sheer unadulterated beauty of the music he creates demonstrates why the room was held silently captivated throughout his set. Interspersed with some terrific banter which helps to generate a warmth and closeness with his audience that is hard to beat.
Some of the Dom penned songs such as ‘Echoes’ have people visibly moved with the sheer emotion and beauty of it, while Dom is the first to acknowledge the contribution that the departed John Martyn and Rory Gallagher have had on his musical journey with fine renditions of John Martin classic ‘May you Never’ and unique acoustic renditions of Rory’s fine work.
In the words of one Leeds Blues Club member and supporter ‘Dom Martin will be playing at the Royal Albert Hall one day.’ You will find nobody who was there last night who would disagree with that and a whole lot of music enthusiasts will be able to look back one day and say I was there watching Dom Martin play in a room with 50 people.’
We were priviliged to have been there.
